Organic MLM Companies

organic mlm

If you are looking to green your life and improve your finances, an organic MLM company might be the right fit for you.

These companies are fairly new, and there are only a handful of them around. I took it upon myself today to venture out into the land of Google and see what organic MLM companies are out there. Here is what I found.

Melaleuca

Products: nutritional supplements, cosmetics, shower, skin care, household cleaning, essential oils.

Verdict: Guilty Greenwasher.

  • not certified organic
  • contains synthetic chemicals
  • contains potential toxins like parabens
  • not listed on EWG

Ingredients in Koala Pals Baby Shampoo/Wash

Aqua (water/Eau), Sodium trideceth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, PEG-150 Distearate, Benzyl Alcohol, Parfum, Polyquaternium-10, Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, d-a-Tocopheryl Acetate (Natural Vitamin E), Avena Sativa (Oat) Extract, Butylene Glycol, Chamomilla Recutita (Chamomile) Leaf Extract, Camellia Oleifera (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Amylcinnamyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methypropional, Hexl Cinnamal, Linallol

PEG compounds are listed in David Suzuki's Dirty Dozen Chemicals to Avoid.

Parfum is a catch all term for literally hundreds of different synthetic (and some potentially toxic) chemicals.

New Earth

Products: Nutritional supplements.

In business since September, 2013.

Products are USDA organic, kosher, halal, paleo friendly, non-GMO.

Verdict: has potential if you want to focus on nutritional supplements.

goDesana

Products: nutritional supplements, essential oils, skin care, shower, household cleaning, and pet care.

Certified USDA organic plus other certifications for dietary supplements.

Verdict: seems legitimate. Products are actually organic, natural, and not full of synthetic chemicals and toxins. No listing on EWG, but product label check reveals great results.

goDesana’s Age Delay Facial Cleanser Ingredients

Certified Organic Chamomile Tea, Certified Organic Saponified Coconut Oil, Certified Organic Saponified Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Certified Organic Unrefined Saponified Shea Butter, Certified Organic Saponified Jojoba Oil, Certified Organic Yellow Beeswax, Certified Organic French Green Clay, Certified Organic Non-GMO Guar Gum, Certified Organic Chlorella Powder, Certified Organic Rosemary Extract, and Certified Organic Non-GMO Mixed Tocopherols, Wildcrafted Rose Essential Oil, Wildcrafted Ylang Ylang Complete Essential Oil, Wildcrafted Sandalwood Essential Oil, and Wildcrafted Geranium, rose Essential Oil.

Forever Living

Products: essential oils, nutritional supplements, skin care, shower, cosmetics.

Multi-billion dollar company capitalizing on the popularity of aloe in products.

Verdit: guilty greenwasher.

  • not organic
  • contains synthetic chemicals
  • contains known and potential toxins like PEG-compounds, fragrance, and methylisothiazolinone

Forever Living’s Sonya Hydrate Shampoo Ingredients

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Stabilized Aloe Vera Gel/gel d’aloès officinal stabilisé*), Water (Aqua), Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Lauramidopropyl Betaine, Propanediol, Dimethicone, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Polyquaternium-74, Laureth-7, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Royal Jelly Powder, PEG-150 Distearate, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Sodium Laureth-13 Carboxylate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, PEG- 10 Sunflower Glycerides, Panthenol, Glycol Stearate, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Methylisothiazolinone, Citric Acid, Fragrance (Parfum).

Beyond Organic/Youngevity

Products: nutritional supplements, skin care, shower.

Fair trade, low carbon footprint, most products are vegan, natural, organic, and certified organic.

Verdict: suspicious.

There is a Beyond Organic Skincare Company based in the UK that uses organic, natural ingredients. There is also a Beyond Organic company that is paired with Youngevity, a network marketing company. These two seem to be separate companies.

Note: Youngevity's products are NOT organic and not natural.

They are sold side by side with Beyond Organic in the MLM company selling these products.

Beyond Organic UK (not MLM) sells high quality, natural and organic products. Beyond Organic sells a conglomerate of actually organic products and “greenwashed” non-organic products.

Beyond Organic’s Anti-Aging Botanical Cleanser

Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Cinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate, Citral, Citronellol, Eugenol, Farnesol, Geraniol, Isoeugenol, Limonene, Linalool

NYR Organics

Products: skin care, cosmetics, bath and body.

Does business in the USA, the UK, and Ireland.

Verdict: so close! Uses mostly actually natural ingredients, and USDA certified organic ingredients, but also contains some synthetic irritants and potential toxins.

Jasmine and Ylang Ylang Shower Gel

Aqua/Water/Eau, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Lauryl Glucoside, Mel*†, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil*, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower Extract, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil*, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Peel Oil*, Aspalathus Linearis Leaf Extract*†, Styrax Tonkinensis Resin Extract*, Alcohol Denat.*, Levulinic Acid, Sodium Levulinate, Glycerin, Sodium Olivamphoacetate, Citric Acid,

Cocamidopropyl betaine is a synthetic chemical used in many "natural" products to make them foam.  For more on whether cocamidopropyl betaine is safe, read this article here.

Also found in NYW products: Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, a synthetic surfactant that has mixed safety reviews.  It's classified as safe subject to concentration limitations, but the Environment Canada Domestic Substance List classifies it as 'expected to be toxic or harmful'.

Miessence

Products: skin care, cosmetics, nutritional supplements, household cleaners.

Certified USDA organic, fair trade, internationally certified (ACO, IFOAM), no synthetic chemicals.

Does business in most countries (122 worldwide, to be exact).

Verdict: Totally legitmate. Certified organic by third party bodies (the ACO and USDA).  Great quality.  No synthetic irritants, potential toxins, or hidden ingredients.

Miessence is a truly impressive company.

They are the ONLY certified organic MLM company around. There are a handful of MLM companies that do offer organic and truly natural products, but Miessence is the only one certified by the ACO and the USDA.

Miessence’s Rejuvenating Facial Cleanser (All Natural Anti-Aging)

Ingredients: Certified organic aloe vera leaf juice, purified water, sunflower seed oil, sclerotium rolfsii gum, yucca extract, bitter orange extract, geranium essential oil, patchouli essential oil, chamomile extract, gotu kola extract, hops extract, horsetail extract, nettle extract.

*all ingredients are certified organic by the ACO and/or the USDA.

What else is impressive about Miessence? (a.k.a. Why is Miessence my absolutely favourite out of all the organic mlm companies?)

  • most products are certified to food grade standards (higher standards than for skin care, cosmetics, etc.)
  • all products are certified organic
  • no synthetic chemicals
  • most products are vegan
  • the only non-vegan ingredient is sustainably-harvested beeswax
  • no synthetic chemicals = no animals testing at ANY point in the manufacture process
  • no-GMOs
  • no pesticides
  • fair trade
  • aloe base, not water base
  • no cheap fillers

Poofy Organics

Verdict: Runner up.  Pretty darned good.  Could be a smidge better. Certified organic by the USDA.  Only concern: there are still a few ingredients that are not organic, including "natural flavors" which could be a red flag.  Base is water.  Okay, but could be better.

Poofy Organics Almond Cookie Body Butter

Ingredients: Organic Unrefined Shea Butter, Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Argan Oil, Organic Arrowroot Powder, Organic Almond Flavor Extract (water, ethyl alcohol, natural flavors).

Poofy Organic Ciao Eczema Lotion

Ingredients in Ciao Eczema: Distilled water, Organic Wheat Germ Oil, Organic Calendula Oil, Organic Unrefined Shea Butter, Organic Vegetable Glycerin, Emulsifying Wax (Cetostearyl Alcohol & Sorbitan Ester) euconostoc Ferment Filtrate (Kimchi Seaweed), Organic Rosemary Extract

Since Poofy organics uses water as a base, it means that their products will not last as long as my #1 choice, Miessence, which uses aloe as a base (aloe is an active ingredient, not a filler).

That said, however, everything else is amazing.  Poofy Organics makes skin care and shower products, home cleaning products, essential oils, and wax melts.  I would feel completely comfortable using these products.

Potential business downside: right now they are only in the USA.  Great if you and everyone you know lives in the States.  Not great if you want to sell or build outside the US.

What Else Should You Know Before Joining an Organic MLM Company?

There are two very big factors that will help to determine your success of failure in MLM.

  1. Your determination and persistence.
  2. Your upline.

A HUGE part of your success or failure - really the determining bit - will be how much you put into your business.

Will you work at it consistently over time?  Will you give up when it gets hard?  Will you keep the big picture and the end goal in mind while you're mastering the little skills?

Building a successful MLM company requires a lot of time and persistence.  You won't hit it big overnight.  You'll have to host a lot of events and/or write a lot of blog posts.

Big things are the result of small actions over time.

Another determining factor is your upline.  What skills does your upline have?  What resources and training can they give you?
